Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is on the rise in unprecedented numbers around the world. In India, the rising burden of CKD puts a strain on established health policies due to a lack of financial capital, skilled manpower, and infrastructure. Kidneys are likely the only vital organs that can be artificially substituted in a practical way. Dialysis maintenance is a well-known treatment option for patients with end-stage renal disease. On maintenance dialysis, tens of thousands of patients around the world are living and enjoying a decent quality of life.
Many more dialysis facilities have been built in the government sector, charitable trust run organizations, and by private nephrologists over the last three decades. During this time, both the number and quality of dialysis services provided have steadily improved. The first hemodialysis facility in India was built in 1961 2 at CMC Vellore, and it was quickly followed by three to four major centres during that decade, including CMC Vellore, KEM Mumbai, PGI Chandigarh, and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Blood Tubing Sets for Hemodialysis are designed to link a patient to an external device that collects and returns the patient's blood to the dialyzer. It is made up of two parts: an arterial and a venous line that are used during dialysis, as well as a fistula and a dialyzer. There are special chambers that minimise foaming, increase air removal, and don't trap EPO (Erythropoietin). This ensures a safe system fit and a lower risk of wet out.
Sets offer a number of practical advantages over competing brands, especially in terms of component internationalization. To ensure that dialyzers and dialysis machines are much safer and simpler to use, it comes in a variety of configurations and requirements to suit the needs of consumers and to match all types of dialyzers and dialysis machines. Sunder Sets are of the highest quality thanks to strict control over each manufacturing phase, from granule formulation to final sterility assurance.
A single hemodialysis session with a new dialyzer costs between 1800 and 3400 rupees in India (compared to 500 dollars in the United States), while a reuse session costs between 1600 and 2700 rupees. Single-use hemodiafiltration will cost between 3200 and 4500 dollars. HDF is a preferable choice over traditional HD if there are no cost constraints, and most large dialysis units in India are gradually increasing the number of HDF machines (Nipro/Fresenius). We have 18 HD machines (14 for negative patients, 3 for hepatitis C patients, and 1 machine for hepatitis B or HIV) and 2 HDF machines in the Dialysis unit. For the current fiscal year, we have budgeted for two more HDF machines.
Since kidney transplantation is still a rare procedure in India, the majority of patients are placed on hemodialysis. The exponential rate of growth of noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension, as well as the steady rise in the geriatric population, are driving the ever-increasing demand for dialysis equipment (most likely to suffer from ESRD). In 2017, the Indian dialysis market was worth USD 3.1 billion. During the forecast period (2018–2023), the global kidney dialysis equipment market is expected to expand at a staggering 5.7 percent CAGR (compound annual growth rate). In 2017, the hemodialysis segment accounted for over 90% of revenue and is expected to rise in the coming years. In 2017, dialysis accounted for more than 70% of all dialysis in the centre.
Business challenges: Consistent progress in the dialysis equipment market has resulted in the development of complex technologies that patients and clinicians are finding difficult to adapt to. The most difficult problem is a lack of instructive instruction and equipment usability. Fresenius, B Braun, Baxter-Gambro, and others are currently active in the Indian dialysis equipment industry. The Indian dialysis market is currently estimated at USD 50.0 billion and is expected to continue to expand. The proposed launch of a portable dialysis device by Medtronic is one of the most recent industry innovations. In rural India, such a system would be easy to transport and would need less water, care, and technician skills. As a whole there is a good scope for new entrepreneur to invest in this business.
